…To be a Stew! That is, in Mega Yacht Crew Lingo, a Stewardess. Recently, I got a new book called The Insiders Guide To Becoming A Yacht Stewardess By Julie Perry. It is a fantastic book full of interesting tidbits about living and working aboard yachts only one step down from a cruise ship! Ms. Perry shares all sorts of juicy secrets about her life stewarding on a yacht (such as the fact that she tried on a pair of a guests prada shoes, over cleaned one time causing a leak, and she got embarrassingly star-struck in front of one of her more famous guests!) It’s a really fun book with a great sense of humor, and I highly recommend it.
After reading this book, I decided that, officially, when I am just out (or still in) college, I want to be a Yacht Stew! You wouldn’t believe how fun the job sounds! I have mentioned this in my blogs before, but I wanted to elaborate on it!
Lets take a look at the perks:
- You get paid to live aboard one of the Mega Yachts (well, technically, you get paid to work on them)
- When the owners or charter guests aren’t there…the boat’s yours!
- You get to travel to all sorts of interesting places where the water is beautiful and the islands are even prettier.
- You often get to feast like kings, for any food the guests or owners leave behind is also yours!
- Uniforms-I know that sounds boring, but you should see the cute uniforms the people on yachts get to wear!
- Often, crew receives hand-me-downs from yacht decor after a boat goes through a decoration change!
