…and I don’t mean I curse like a sailor now. The other day while talking to a friend, I had an “out of body” experience listening to myself tell him about the work we were having done on the boat. I was telling him about our house battery bank on the boat:
– What constitutes a “cycle”.
– The need to charge and discharge the batteries properly to extend their life expectancy.
– Getting them to “float” (deep charge) versus just a bulk charge.
– How the battery next to the bow thruster is also part of our house bank, but needed to have an isolation switch so as not to draw down the whole bank when using the thruster.
While I was telling him all this, I was thinking to myself, “Who is this talking?”

A year ago we were still living landlocked in Colorado, making the final “go/no-go” decision for this adventure by preparing to put our house on the market. Now, here I am (Dave is out of town for a few days) talking with the team at Yacht Tech (great guys working on our boat) about the key in the windlass, installing a battery monitor for more efficient battery management, and the art of fiberglass repair. Truth be told, I have just enough knowledge to be dangerous — Dave is the one who thoroughly understands all this stuff. But I just love the fact that I can have the conversation at all. It’s thrilling to have a whole new aspect of our world to learn.
