Leaving South Florida

It’s time to point the bow north. The guys from Yacht Tech finished up their work this morning; Kathryn went to the grocery store this afternoon to do provisioning, and she’ll go again tomorrow morning; I changed the oil in the main engine and generator, and stowed all the spare parts; Ayla helped us both out wherever she could. I think we’re ready.

Our first stop will be Titusville (near Cape Canaveral) so we can visit the Kennedy Space Center. It’s about an 18-hour cruise from here, so we’ll do a single overnight to get there. The weather looks pretty good for tomorrow (Saturday) night. We’re having dinner with our dear friend Tim (who loaned us a car the entire time we were in South Florida!), and then we’ll slip the lines after dinner. It should be a pretty straightforward trip.

It wasn’t that long ago that an overnight cruise, out in the Atlantic Ocean, with a nighttime departure, would have set me on edge. But I don’t feel that way this time. We know our ship better than we did six months ago, we are able to assess the weather that will affect us, and our boat is in great shape (not to mention that we now have AIS to help us dodge cruise ships). I’m looking forward to it.

I’m headed to bed now, and I expect to sleep well.
