Wow! That was the longest voyage that we’ve done as a family since moving aboard Three@Sea. I have to say, it was GREAT! We were blessed with excellent weather, a boat that performed flawlessly, and a crew that did everything required to make it a great journey. In spite of arriving in New York Harbor at dusk, and cruising up the Hudson River in the dark, our arrival in NYC was magical. Cruising past the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island really made me feel like an imigrant (or at least a rescued passenger from the Titanic arriving on the Carpathia).

Here are some of the stats from our voyage:

  • 809 nautical miles
  • 111 hours
  • Average speed:  7.3 kts
  • Fuel burned:  ~300 gallons
  • Furthest offshore:  75 miles
  • Movies viewed:  15 (e.g., Slumdog Millionaire, Iron Man, Thank you for Smoking, Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Mamma Mia, Get Smart)
  • Scariest moment:  Navigating through the Verazanno Narrows Bridge in the dark, with a flooding tide, and plenty of barge and freighter traffic.
  • Best moment: Rounding Cape Hatteras, knowing that the most difficult part of the journey was behind us.

We’re hitched to a mooring ball just south of the 79th Street Boat Basin, which gives a great view of Morningside Park and the upper west side. Today we washed and cleaned the boat, filled her with water, and stowed all the remnants of our voyage. Now it’s time to enjoy this amazing city!
