1:00 p.m. on Lake Ontario. Sky and water meld together.

We have a perfect weather window, and the seas are smooth out here; but, the entire atmosphere is downright eerie. It’s just after noon, and yet a heavy hazy hangs over the horizon blurring the intersection between sky and water. There seems to be nothing out here but us. No freighters. No fishing boats. No radio traffic. No wildlife. Nothing!

I’ve never seen water like this, and struggle to describe what it looks like. Imagine a cauldron of melted pewter, where a spoon has just been removed from stirring the mixture, and a gentle ripple glides over the surface.

Photo just doesn't do justice to color and feeling of water.

I feel as if we’re in some kind of Hollywood B-movie thriller, and something will emerge out of the haze or water leading to no good end for us. It is definitely eerie on Lake Ontario.

P.S. Arrived safely in St. Catherine’s, Ontario, Canada…no Loch Ness style monsters. 🙂

  1. Question- Why have you chosen to not do “The Great Loop”? Is it anything to do with you “Air Draft”? Thanks
