I know….another corny title…. I just have so much fun coming up with them. 🙂
Our stop in Port Weller was supposed to be a quick layover to go and see Niagara Falls, but it’s turned out to be one of those pleasant travel surprises. Unbeknownst to us, this area is a popular wine growing region of Canada. The lush green country roads are filled with 50 plus vineyards, beautifully manicured orchards, charming homes, and a pristine little town called Niagra-on-the-Lake.
At the end of today’s adventure, Ayla announced she is going to move to Niagara-on-the-Lake; marry
a Canadian and live here with their daughter; have a quaint home with a beautiful garden during spring through fall; and, in the winter she’ll live with her family on a deserted island in the Bahamas. Sounds like a good plan to me. 🙂
Niagara Falls was all the things you hear—breathtaking, majestic, powerful and beautiful. Although, as a boater I now see it differently than I might have even just a year ago. I think of the bodies of water it connects, the current (35 mph), and how early settlers dealt with transiting Lake Erie to Lake
Ontario given the falls.
Couple of quick facts:
- The falls are 12,000 years old; glacially formed; and erode back ~1 foot every year.
- There are 2 sets of falls: Niagara American Falls on the American side, and Horseshoe Falls on the Canadian side)
- Horse Shoe Falls is ~180 feet tall, with 34 million gallons of water a minute spilling over the falls
Standing on an observation platform near the base of
Horseshoe falls, the pounding of the falls was synchronized to the pounding of heart as I drank in the beauty of these falls through the mist. Incredible!
