Publish Date: Friday, June 12, 2009During our travels, we have visited educational places like the Museum of Nature and Science in Cleveland; we have unique visits such as Falllingwater (see blog below); and we have nature visits like hiking in Warderick Wells. But sometimes, we have just an all-out fun trip. That was the theme of last weekend when Three@Sea took a two-day trip to Cedar Point-the roller coaster
central of America. Located in Sandusky, Ohio, on Lake Erie, this incredible theme park is host to roller coasters with 400 foot drops, jarring g-forces, unimaginable twist and turns, and lots of other fun! As a roller coaster maniac, I was in heaven.
The morning we left from Cleveland to cruise down to Sandusky held lots of fun surprises! My dad, for my moms birthday, arranged
for my mom’s friend and her daughter who is my age to drop in for a surprise visit! As we were filling up with fuel, two hooded figures dawning large sunglasses stepped up to our boat and announced they wanted a ride. I believe we woke the marina with our yells of excitement after that.
We were staying at the Cedar Point Marina, so the morning of our first day, Claire and I made sure we were up before the sun to be the first ones in the gates! On the map, I can say from experience, the roller coasters are down scaled. We picked a fun looking supposedly “easy” roller coaster called Millennium Force to start our day. This was Claire’s first ever time riding a roller coaster, her mom is afraid of heights, and my mom and I hadn’t been on a true roller coaster in ages. You can only imagine the looks we exchanges as we were strapped in and started a 310 foot climb at what seemed like a completely straight angle! With no shoulder rest, and only a lap bar, I can’t say I was feeling perfectly relaxed. We reached the top of the hill where I was pretty sure we couldn’t see the ground, and Claire and I looked at each other with the expression of “WHAT IN THE WORLD ARE WE DOING ON THIS THING?” Whoosh! The drop was jarring…but incredibly fun! Millennium Force ended up as one of our favorites…and a good story.
Throughout the next two days, we rode every roller coaster (except Top Thrill Dragster). Maverik
ended up at the top of my list of favorites. This unique and wild ride is twisty, turney, fast, furious, and unlike any roller coaster I have ever been on! Raptor, another twisty coaster, was third on the favorites list. This one you are strapped in with your feet dangling, and the entire ride is filmed! We also enjoyed the Blue Streak which was the roller coaster there when my dad was in high school!
The only roller coaster we skipped was Top Thrill Dragster. We had good reasons too. Not only was the line an hour long, but , well, it looked a little intense! This roller coaster literally goes straight up, and straight down while twisting and turning! The
drop is 400 ft and the G-force is supposedly so intense you are plastered to the back of your seat. The parents went on it, but as for the kids, we decided to take a rain check.
Our Cedar Point experience was fun, thrilling, intense, fabulous, friendly, and a wild ride! Lets hope to be back one day…!
