Completed the Trent-Severn!

Whew! That was a lot of locks! We finished our journey across Ontario on
the Trent-Severn Waterway today, transiting a total of 45 locks
(actually, 43 locks, one marine railroad, and one missing lock: there is
no Lock 29). We’re now peacefully anchored in a cove near Belleview,
Ontario, which is on the Bay of Quinte at the eastern end of Lake
Ontario. We’re all very tired, but happy to be finished with another
cruising milestone.

The Trent-Severn is an amazing waterway, and we’re really glad we
traveled the length of it. The Parks Canada staff is wonderful, and the
facilities at the locks are all very nice. We saw people traveling the
Waterway in a variety of craft: lots of 25′-40′ Sea-Rays (and the like),
quite a few Grand-Banks-like trawlers, only a few sailboats, lots of
pontoon boats, and even two or three jet-skis and kayaks. Most people
sleep on their boats (even the small ones), but we also saw some people
pitching tents on the lock lawns. All the locks have bathrooms for use
by the moored boats, so even boats without facilities can transit the
system. The most unusual sight was a fleet of about 15 canoes filled
with high-school students — they had camping equipment with them, and
were obviously on some multi-day summer adventure. Fun!

We’ll head over to Kingston in the next day or two, where we’ll regroup
before heading out to the Canadian Maritime Provinces. I’m having
trouble believing it’s the end of July already — where does the time go?

hi just thought i’d ask how is your bow thruster working? I saw you at lock 19 with the two black dogs. I have been telling people around Peterborough about your web site.
