Interim visit report…

Often I like to write my blogs at the end of our visit to a town, with the idea of offering a complete picture, and possibly a few insights. The challenge here is… we are never leaving Prince Edward Island. We have truly been captured by the magic of this island — the beauty of its landscape and the warmth of its people. The sun has been a real bonus too, after a summer of wind, rain, and cool temps.

Today we rented a car (which we rarely do) and toured the central part of the island.  Here are a few photos from today’s outing.

Although the island has a unique beauty and quaintness that abounds, it is the spirit of the people that makes this island rich. They are passionate about their island. They are both proud of it, and are anxious to share it with visitors; while at the same time fiercely protecting it from over development and pollution.

People here smile and take time to look you in the eye when you talk with them. Nobody seems to be in too big of a hurry. When they ask you a question, they are genuinely interested in the answer, and take time to listen to your response. These things may seem trivial, and yet they create an incredibly welcoming atmosphere.

Although I suspect we will actually continue on our voyage, 🙂  we will spend a few more days here than we planned, to savor this enchanted place. Also, it is the perfect place to work on my “Grand Unified Theory of Lobster Traps” — more on that later…..

    Kathryn,

Thank you for your kind words about our little Island. It fill me with pride to see people enjoy and fall in love w/ her. =) She’s very good for the soul.

It was wonderful to meet you Friday. You were a breath of fresh air; very happy, sincere and kind. Your life serves as a grand inspiration to me and I know someday, I will be doing the same thing you and your family have been brave enough to do -traveling the world, experiencing and participating in life w/ the people who matter to me most.

I wish you and your family the best of luck. I hope your journey never ends. Au revoir. =)

If you like PEI and think the people are friendly (which they are) then don’t go to Newfoundland. The scenery is spectacular and the people treat you like family.

    Hi Kathryn and family:

I am the woman who stopped and chatted the evening you and your family were sitting on the top deck, I had my two dogs with me and was so entrigued by your voyage around the world and wish I was running away with you all.
I am so glad you got a chance to visit these lovely locations around our Island and I noticed this morning you were still docked here in Charlottetown.
I can only wish you all the safest journey back home and may your sea be calm and please come back someday again soon.
I will try to catch you again before you leave.

I’m glad you liked your stay on PEI. Myself, my partner and our 1.5 year old girl walked by your boat at Peakes Quay and were pretty impressed! Looking at your pictures made me laugh, because I’m from French River harbour and you took a picture of my house!! I’ve lobster fished for a few years out of that harbour as well. I love the water and I think you’re voyage is very interesting and you are very lucky to have the opprotunity to do something like this. Good luck and hope you find more places on the planet that are much like our friendly little Island.

    Kathryn,

I’ve been following you since Fenelon Falls.

I have never travelled to PEI, but everyone that I know who has been there says the same thing. Probably, is Canada’s “jewel”. It is no surprise then, that you have had so many people take the time to respond to this blog from the local area as they are quite genuine.

You’ve encouraged me to make it a part of our family’s future travel destination.

    Hi Kathryn,

My son Tate and I met with your Husband while you were in Charlottetown. We too were visiting PEI albeit for the day but we find ourselves coming back every year.

I’m so pleased to hear that PEI left it’s mark on you and your family. We sincerely enjoy the Maritimes and we hope your stops in Pictou and Halifax are equally as pleasant.

Your family’s journey is incredibly inspiring and will undoubtedly give people the courage and conviction to live thier dreams as you are living yours.

Our best wishes to you and your family for a safe adventure.
