Giving Thanks

Thanksgiving is our family’s favorite holiday. Not only is it an opportunity to count our numerous blessings, but it is also a time to gather with family and friends to cook, laugh, and connect. Fall has always been a time of reflection for both Kathryn and me, and Thanksgiving feels like the culmination of those instincts. We are truly thankful for the family, friends, health, opportunity and abundance in our life.

As the “gateway to the holiday season”, Thanksgiving also stands as the early boundary of the Christmas season. We have a tradition in our family that we don’t decorate for Christmas or listen to carols until (at the earliest) the day after Thanksgiving. We realize this is almost quaint in a world that begins decorating the malls for Christmas shortly after Labor Day, but it feels good to us to give Thanksgiving its due.

Which leads me to one of Kathryn’s lifelong quests: Like other holidays in our life, Kathryn thinks Thanksgiving needs its own music. We enjoy listening to Christmas carols during the month of December. We also play patriotic music around Independence Day. And who doesn’t belt out “Auld Lang Syne” on New Year’s Eve? Easter has “Here comes Peter Cottontail”, and Halloween has “The Monster Mash” and “Warewolves of London” (okay — those last two are a bit of a stretch). And of course, Valentine’s Day has thousands of love songs. But Thanksgiving is conspicuously poor in the celebratory musical genre. This is an opportunity for all of you musicians and poets out there!

So in lieu of singing Thanksgiving carols, we will watch the Thanksgiving Day Parade, endure the Detroit Lions inevitable loss, prepare and consume an abundance of food and drink, and enjoy the company of family and friends. We are grateful for the life that we live, and we cherish every day as a gift.

We wish you and yours a wonderful Thanksgiving!

You must have missed last week`s game. The Browns find yet another way to lose.
I´m looking for Argentine Thankgiving ballads but they just look at me funny. Maybe I´ll find a Christmas tune for you.

    Hi David and family

Gee I guess I never realized that Thanksgiving was conspicuously poor in the celebratory musical genre, but then you have to remember that I was kicked out of my church choir! hehehe

We are having “T” day with Todd and his wife Patty here in central FL and yes, it is very nice to be with family.

I’m sorry to say that I haven’t heard back from my friend in Fort liquordale.

    Happy Thanksgiving

Happy Thanksgiving, Dave, Kathryn and Ayla.

I keep hearing Bob Hope singing “Thanks for the Memories” but I don’t think that’s going to do it. I’ll tell Michael to get working on a Thanksgiving song.

We think of you all often and hopefully we can talk soon.
