Hug Your Ocean!

Hello, all! First, thank you to everyone who was kind enough to take the time and vote in the Oceana Junior Ocean Hero Awards last month. Your wonderful words of encouragement and support truly meant a lot to me. I’d like to offer my heartfelt  congratulations to the school group Finatics who won this year’s award (announced today). I applaud their work in educating others, and getting our Congress involved in helping to end the cruel and devastating practice of shark finning. Keep up the great work Finatics!

It’s always fun to have a great summer project, so this year I’ve started  a brand new Twitter account called Hug Your Ocean. Every day (and I truly mean EVERY day, maybe even multiple times), I’ll be posting  a whole variety of ocean fun facts and cool trivia covering topics from plankton to whale sharks; coral reefs to deep trenches; ocean history to crazy statistics; along with everyday actions you can take to care for our oceans.  Also, I’ll post our general location for the purpose of Save Our Seas (SOS). If you’d like me to come to your summer camp, community gathering or school to present SOS, just send me a Tweet and I’ll try and make it happen!

I really hope you like this new project.  I’ve found some really interesting (and some really wacky) fun facts that I’ll be posting. To follow Hug Your Ocean on Twitter, go to this link: www.twitter.com/hugyourocean Feel free to ReTweet these fun facts; the more people know just how cool our oceans are, the more they’ll do to take care of them !  I can’t wait to hear your thoughts and any suggestions! Thank you so much!

Happy Summer and remember to Hug Your Ocean!

One good reason to Hug Your Ocean, a beautiful pod of dolphins surfing our bow wake in the Atlantic.

You are so lucky to have all this technology (literally!) at your fingertips. When I was your age, all I had was pencil, paper, and a cranked party-line phone…

  3. Do you see dolphins every day.

  4. Kurt says:

First off, what exactly is it like to see a pod of wild dolphins surfing your wake? I saw a baby red fox 4 nights ago and my heart filled with joy. I can only imagine what it’s like to see dolphins!!! Secondly, I am absolutely amazed at your dedication and conviction to preserving our world’s oceans. Being the uncle of a lackadaisical , 12 year old boy (the boy whines when he has to take out the garbage), I am stunned at what your are doing and accomplishing at such a young age. I am with Dave (again) when he says that you are lucky being alive in such an age where you can Tweet, blog and vlog your updates. Judging by what he posted, I don’t think I am as old as he is, but I can relate because my job growing up was manually changing channels between commericials. Keep on keepin’ on and try and get your dad to post a blog! I want to here more mechanical stuff.
