Caribbean Bound!

Publish Date: Friday, December 17, 2010
Through great effort by the Yacht Tech team, Three@Sea should be back in the water this afternoon. Well done team! It will be nice to move back onto our floating home, and just in time to catch a weather window…

I am taking vacation the next two weeks, and we plan to cruise to Puerto Rico, weather permitting. We will depart this evening, cruise through the Bahamas, on to The Turks and Caicos, and eventually arriving in Puerto Rico. If we cruise direct (non-stop) to Puerto Rico the voyage will take us about 6-1/2 days, but we may need to stop for weather. The weather looks good for us to cross the Gulf Stream to the Bahamas tonight, and then we will evaluate the weather each day to decide whether to continue. We can stop in the Exumas of the Bahamas or The Turks and Caicos for a couple days if we have to wait for weather. It should be a fun cruise!

We plan to make Fajardo on the east end of Puerto Rico our home-base this winter. Because Puerto Rico is a U.S. territory, our AT&T cell phones work on the same plan, and our Verizon MiFi card works with the same plan — no expensive roaming fees as in most foreign countries. I can also fly in and out of San Juan for business, and I don’t have to go through customs or immigration each time I travel. And by far the most attractive feature of Puerto Rico is its excellent location for weekend cruising, both around Puerto Rico and to the Virgin Islands. We are really looking forward to exploring the area.

We’ll try to update our position daily on the web site as we make our way to Puerto Rico. If all goes well with the weather, we will have a Caribbean Christmas!

    David,
How lucky can you be. In Philadelphia it is absolutely freezing. I am counting the minutes until I board my flight to Tortola. I started going to the BVI’s when Tortola was no more than an outpost. There were practically no houses at that time, a dock for cargo boats, a couple of out of the way hotels. Mail boats that ran between St. Thomas and Tortola and Virgin Gorda where Rockefeller was building Little Dix. It was wonderful but it still is, just a lot more crowded.
The Best and I will be following your every email, John

Really looking forward to hearing about your PR stay; I lived there for 13 years when I was a kid back in the 50’s.
