Passage Update

Publish Date: Wednesday, December 22, 2010
Three@Sea is now further south than she has ever been: We are just
passing Mayaguana Island in the southern Bahamas, and we will reach
The Turks and Caicos islands by morning. Kathryn and Ayla went down to
sleep about an hour ago, and I’m enjoying a calm watch on the open
sea. We have a 10-12 foot long-period northeast swell from the
Atlantic, and the local winds are very mild. The moon is just past
full, so it is reflecting enough off the water that I can see the
waves and the horizon. Beautiful!

We left George Town, Bahamas yesterday afternoon after completing a
repair to a leaky oil line. The repair was successful, and all on-
board systems seem to be performing well since we got underway again.
We enjoyed our 30 hours in George Town harbor: the Bahamian water is
the most beautiful we’ve seen anywhere, and our short stay brought
back fond memories of the several weeks we spent there two years ago.
We went for a refreshing swim in the gin-clear water before weighing
anchor, and it was a perfect tonic to wash away the sweat and dirt
from the engine room.

Once we pass The Turks and Caicos tomorrow morning we will have a
2-1/2 day passage to Puerto Rico ahead of us. We have been receiving
daily weather updates via our satellite phone, and the weather looks
like it is going to hold for us to complete our journey in comfort. We
are very thankful for our good weather fortune, especially after the
conditions we endured when we left Florida. We expect to arrive in
Puerto Rico late Christmas Night, and we will find an easy-entry lee
anchorage in which to spend the night.

As a family we have decided to celebrate Christmas Eve and Christmas
Day a couple days late this year. We realize it is a bit unusual, but
we don’t think Jesus would mind. 🙂 We hope to find a quiet Caribbean
anchorage, enjoy each others company, and count our blessings.

Happy holidays to all of you!

No, I don’t think Jesus will mind!

What are the water and air temps?

What are your plans after Puerto Rico and how long are you planning to stay there?

    Inquiring minds want to know!

    David,
You are missing an opportunity in your journey to visit Providenciales and North Caicos, both beautiful with great fishing and lots of sea creatures for Ayla to see in the vast shallow caicos banks.

The Schmidts are wishing for calm sees for you! We too are wondering how long you’ll be in Puerto Rico. Or more specifically where you’ll be the first week of April. 🙂

    Smooth Cruising and Merry Christmas!

    Warmly,
    Jackie
